The City of Deerfield Beach is excited to let residents know that train horns along the Dixie Highway Corridor will go silent at midnight on May 18, 2019, when Quiet Zones are officially active at all rail crossings along the Dixie Highway corridor in Deerfield Beach:
A Quiet Zone is where locomotive horns are not sounded upon the train’s approach. At midnight on May 18, 2019, the train horns will stop sounding unless the train engineer perceives a threat on or near the tracks. Pedestrians are encouraged to cross railroad tracks at designated crossings and obey all warning devices.
The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) along with Brightline, which is currently being rebranded to Virgin Trains USA, added more crossing gate arms, upgraded warning devices, improved lighting, signage, medians, and curbs along the Florida East Coast in Deerfield Beach to meet federal requirements for quiet zones.
